My Story

A woman puts on makeup.

Hi, I’m Jody.

A lifestyle blogger, health & wellness advocate, and Beautycounter director dedicated to helping you glow from the inside out.

I’m also a true island girl at heart and am committed to doing the best I can for myself, my family, and my community. I truly believe this all starts with education and feeling empowered enough to make the best choices you can at any given moment.

Through my blog content, health challenges, and safer beauty products, I help people like you become more aware of the clean options available and more conscious about the impact of your actions on our health.

How did I get here?

I grew up as the youngest of four girls on the shores of Prince Edward Island, Canada. And for as long as I can remember, I’ve been obsessed with fashion, style, and all things beauty. We were also a very active household and my passion for fitness was sparked by my sisters’ enthusiasm. I’m very lucky to have such intelligent, fit, beautiful women as role models.

In my early 20s, I met the love of my life (in an Economics class at Acadia University, of all places!) and went on to complete my MBA at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We then moved to another island on the west coast and settled in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia, to be closer to my husband’s family.

Here, we feel like we have the best of both worlds: We get to see the water AND the mountains every day. How cool is that? We’re also surrounded by an incredible community of wonderful, health-conscious people that believe in making a positive difference every day.

You don’t know what you don’t know.

Things really started to change when we had our first child, Victoria. I no longer just had myself to look out for, but the health and well-being of my family as well. My commitment to conscious living got quite serious when Victoria was diagnosed with non-verbal Autism at age 4.

In a quest to ensure I was being as vigilant as possible with my family’s health, I became hyper aware of the effects of not only what we put into our bodies, but also what we put ON our bodies.

I began to uncover the truth: There are countless products we use each day that contain toxic ingredients. The reality of this was surprising and unsettling, to say the least.

And to be honest, when I first started doing research, it was all pretty eye-opening. I felt disappointed with the whole personal care industry. It was as if nobody cared. Wasn’t sunscreen supposed to be good for you? But as I found out, not all of them are created equally.

You can have it all.

Thankfully, I was introduced to Beautycounter, a company that’s devoted to progress and offers high performance personal care products. Their mission is to get safer products into the hands of everyone. Plus, it was founded by a dedicated wife and mother, much like myself. Win-win.

I was not only impressed with the values of the company, but I was also relieved to discover I wouldn’t have to sacrifice quality for safety.

I now have added peace of mind knowing I’m using clean personal care products on myself, my family, and my amazing clients. I love working with a company that aligns with my own personal values and the sort of impact I want to have on future generations.

I truly believe everyone can do a little better every day and make a positive impact along the way.
