It’s Your Personal Predator, Tame It & Win!

Round 3 of The Living Hollis Style 30 Day Health Challenge is in full swing for the month of March and like any new beginning, the team is pumped full of adrenaline, energy and hope.
As the art of salad making is mastered and reading food labels becomes the order of the day, one very important aspect to consider is, the strong resolve to keep moving to the 30 Day finish line and beyond.
In the beginning we’re all pumped full of excitement to lineup and get ‘it’ done, yet despite our best intentions something continually gets in the way.
No matter what promises are made or how ready you imagined yourself to be, an attack by a silent predator will launch the next time you plan to move ahead.

I dubbed my predator, ‘resistance‘.
We all have our own versions.  We’ve been chased by it, and many are stalked by it on a regular basis.
Resistance. It’s a genius at throwing up blocks and barricades to all you want to create, have, be and do.  Specifically, it brings havoc to anything of a higher nature and calling.   Anything of a trans-formative nature, whether it be building a beautiful business, changing core beliefs or losing a few pounds is this predator’s first point of attack.
The best defense against it is to do nothing.  Decide to stay within the safe bounds of mediocrity and you’ll be assured safe passage.  Boldly step towards your purpose and goals and BOOM, resistance immediately snaps to attention, ready to hunt and take you down.

However, we all know what your life will be like if you choose to do nothing, right?   Dullness, boredom, lifelessness, uninspired attempts, soul sucking work, draining experiences.  The inspired beings that have chosen to deal with resistance, will drift away, subtly feeling your unwillingness to take on your doubts and move forward.
Yes, the predator lurks, but that’s the exhilarating part of your journey.  Outwitting this cunning beast by showing up everyday and giving your best effort are your weapons.  Don’t cheat yourself out of this opportunity to touch and experience your deep well of inspiration.  Yes, you’ll be hunted, but this is the time to remember how divinely powerful you are.
Keep your eyes on the end result.  Don’t give power to your excuses and rationalizations, don’t hand over your power by giving up.  Make a decision to bravely do your thing.
If you’re challenged by your own predator, take solace in knowing this process happens to most people in various areas of their lives. It’s a rare being that can say they have not come face to face with their own beast and not caved to its seductions at least once.

Author, Steven Pressfield, has beautifully captured the essence and behaviour of this entity and adorns (Resistance) with a capital ‘R” due to its ability to wield such incredible power.  In his best selling book, The War of Art – Break Through the Blocks and Win Your Inner Creative Battle, he outlines the resistive force we encounter. He then shares how to get past it. It’s well worth reading if you find yourself struggling with chronic resistance.

Shedding a strong light of awareness on the problem helped me understand what I was facing.  However, what really stopped me in my tracks and pulled me back from oblivion was kick-ass accountability.  I found someone that knew exactly how to talk to me, using words that sunk into my psyche.  They knew the many ways I would try to slide away from my intentions and they were not fooled by any of it.

This relationship/process changed my life forever.

Working with someone that would not allow me to squirm back to mediocrity changed my life.  Find someone to help you do the same.  You’re worth it!

Set Yourself Up For Success

Begin a new challenge or project of any kind with a powerfully fun ritual! W hen I begin any project of a business or personal nature I select an environment that beautifully spirals up great feelings within me and I spend time there sitting and writing out my intentions.

Recently I’ve been setting my intentions at Vista 18 Westcoast Grill & Wine Bar  It sports an absolutely magical and majestic view of Victoria and surrounding area.  Consider stopping in, order a hot drink and begin writing and gaining clarity around your goal(s). Discover what might stand in the way of attaining your desire(s) and write out what you will do if/when it occurs.

You can do this at the beach or in any space that spirals up the internal ‘high’ required to set you up for success.
